On 12 February 2026, the case against the female environmental defenders and others was once again adjourned to 22 April 2026 after the State failed to present a witness. This continued delay means the activists remain entangled in a prolonged legal process despite repeatedly being ready to proceed with their defence.
These defenders were arrested on 21 October while peacefully delivering a petition to NEMA, calling on the Authority to use its legal mandate to protect from ongoing destruction.
Their arrest and the repeated adjournments raise serious concerns about access to justice, the protection of environmental defenders, and respect for constitutional rights.
We call upon judicial authorities and relevant state institutions to ensure a fair, speedy hearing and to uphold the rights of citizens who peacefully advocate for environmental protection.
Justice delayed must not become justice denied.
