Warm greetings from Liberty Pro Bono Initiative (LPI)!

 

LPI would like to share with you an update on the brutal arrest of the female climate activist NampijjaProscovia 31 years and Nakabuye Zaina 23 years . They were brutally arrested on October 21 , 2025 while peacefully delivering their petition to National Environment Management Authority(NEMA) to revoke the permits issued to a Chinese company authorizing sand mining and commercial rice cultivation in Lwera wetland

 

 

 

The activists were detained overnight at Central Police Station (CPS) Kampala and later presented before chief magistrate court at Buganda road where they were charged with public nuisance contrary to section 148(1) of the penal code Act Cap 128 and remanded to Luzira prison. The hearing of their case has been scheduled for November 4,2025.
