Press release: Female Climate Activist Collapses in Court as Bail Hearings Are Adjourned

12 October 2026. Kampala.

Two bail applications for female and youth climate activists were adjourned today after the trial magistrate was absent. One female activist collapsed in court and was left to recover on her own instead of being taken for immediate medical attention.

LPI is concerned about the delayed medical response and calls for an urgent medical check-up and independent investigation into allegations of brutal arrest, beating and torture. The four activists arrested on 10 August have now spent 63 days on remand; the ten arrested on 31 August have spent 42 days. Both groups remain in custody.
