Dear Partners and Colleagues,
Warm greetings from Liberty Pro Bono Initiative (U) Ltd- (LPI)!
We write to share with you the attached press release issued today, July 12, 2025, regarding the continued and unjust detention of Ms. Nalusiba Phionah, a 40-year-old mother of six and one of the 11 anti-EACOP activists arrested on April 23, 2025, while peacefully delivering a petition to KCB Bank in Kampala.
As an organization with a dedicated focus on defending the rights of female human rights defenders especially those resisting extractive and environmentally harmful projects like EACOP. LPI is particularly concerned about the gendered injustices that women like Ms. Nalusiba face. Her prolonged detention has not only severed her from her children but also exposed her to inhumane conditions that reflect a broader pattern of repression and neglect toward women environmental defenders.
This statement highlights both the personal toll on Ms. Nalusiba and the systemic risks facing women who dare to speak out. We urge you to read and share this release within your networks and to join us in amplifying calls for justice andjoin us in amplifying calls for justice and accountability.
